12th Anniversary of the Death of Tupac Shakur

Tupac Shakur

September 13, 1996. I remember it was night, and I was sitting in my grandparents’ living room, and my grandmother was flipping the channels on the television, when I caught 2Pac’s image on MTV. I asked her to change it back, really, really, quick, and that’s how I found out 2Pac had died. I had known he was in critical condition from his shooting in Las Vegas, but I really didn’t know much more than that. I think I might have thought he might actually be alright. But . . . no. Tupac Shakur died that night, at the age of 25.

I’m 26, now.

I found this blog post by someone through Google, and I found it very endearing, retrospective and truthful. In it, the author talks about her sonic relationship with 2Pac, her opinion on who the actual man was, and thinks on who Tupac Shakur might have become today. The article also includes an embedded YouTube video of that same MTV news break I saw 12 years ago.

We’ll definitely be bringing up 2Pac on tomorrow’s show, play some music from his epic yet short-lived career, and ask Random his thoughts on the iconic rapper, who Blender Magazine called (immediately following Random’s October 2008 article) “the most overrated thing in music.”

I would love to play this song tomorrow live on-air, it’s one of my favs from The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory, but it being a 2Pac song, there’s some, well, explicit and controversial content within it, so here’s a fan made YouTube video for it.
