Notorious Trailer

posted by The Dark Prince

Here’s the trailer for the biopic for the late Notorious B.I.G., simply titled Notorious. Though the relatively unknown Jamal Woolard stars as Biggie Smalls, Angela Bassett was cast as his mother, Voletta Wallace, so it’s already got ten times more credibility than 50 Cent’s Get Rich or Die Tryin’ ever will. Did anybody see that movie? Man, it was God awful, and the ending just left me going, “What the hell? Are you serious?” Yeah, don’t watch that, but do check out this trailer for Notorious, as it looks like it might not be half bad.

The Takeover - S03E03 - Wow . . . WoW. - (ep58)

 The Takeover - S03E02 - Wow . . . WoW. [165:32m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download (165)

Third time’s the charm . . . or not. ZeaLouS1 arrived late in the studio, and it became quickly apparent that Tony B. and the Dark Prince can only entertain people by reciting California state driving laws :P Everything picked up once the big man got in the studio, though, as we interviewed Atlas Suicide, got into a lot of World of Warcraft, including terrorists plots and girls playing naked, became serious for a moment when we discussed the plane crash that involved Travis Barker from Blink-182 and DJ AM, and remembered one of Tony B.’s friends that he lost over the weekend. All around, it was quite a show, proving that we’re getting better, which means, yes, miracles do happen.

Songs and links to the news and topics after the jump!

Deftones Live in LA Thursday Night

posted by The Dark Prince

Deftones

Sent from the Deftones MySpace:

“Deftones will be playing a very special, and rare show tomorrow night, 9/18/08, at Spaceland in Los Angeles. Tickets for the show go on sale tomorrow morning at 10am, limit 2 per person.”

I’ve never been to Spaceland before (at least I don’t think, my early 20s were kinda a blur) but I know that it is not a large venue at all, catering mostly to indie and punk bands, so this should be a really small and unique show for Deftones to play.

I’m really thinking about going. Really. Tickets are $25 via TicketWeb Thursday morning at 10 AM. Full details, including ticket links, at Eventful.com.

Who Killed Amanda Palmer?

posted by The Dark Prince

Who Killed Amanda Palmer Cover

Amanda Palmer is one half of the Gothic/Cabaret duo Dresden Dolls, and today she has released the absolutely wonderful album Who Killed Amanda Palmer. It’s really good, I’ve listened to it twice already before even listening to the latest episode of the Takeover :P

If you’re a fan of piano, Goth rock, or just odd/strange/unique music, I think you’ll like her. I’ll play something from the album this Sunday on air, perhaps the song from the video I’ve posted below, “Guitar Hero,” which is part of a series of videos from WKAP found on Ms. Palmer’s YouTube Channel.

The Takeover - S03E02 - The Return of Silent D.- (ep57)

posted by Tony B.

Standard Podcast [145:51m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download

The second episode of the third season, but was it better than the first? You tell us, as this week we started off with some major technical difficulties, with the Internet down completely, giving us an almost 30 minute late start. When everything started working again, we then got into Japanese vending machines, learned about Tony B.’s real feelings towards Silent D. in a major rant/diss, talked about the 12th anniversary of the death of 2Pac, got a phone call from SILENT D. HIMSELF, finally had our interview with hip-hop superstar Random, and closed out with a freestyle from ZeaLouS1.

Songs Played:

Break #1

2Pac - Me and My Girlfriend

2Pac - California Love

Break #2

Random - The 8th Day

Lupe Fiasco featuring Nikki Jean - Hip-Hop Saved My Life

Break #3

2Pac & Elton John - Ghetto Gospel

The Game - Old English

Break #4

Electric Valentine - A Night With You

Metroid - I’m On The List

Break #5

Random - Aqua Soul

ZeaLouS1 - Nerdcore Blaster

Nine Inch Nails, Complete with “Stealth Screens”

posted by The Dark Prince

Nine Inch Nails Live

I saw Nine Inch Nails a couple of years ago at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine, CA. I like NIN, you can say, in theory. I don’t really go out of my way to play their music as opposed to say, I don’t know, Tori Amos (I love Tori Amos), but if it’s on the radio, or I hear something of theirs somewhere on the ‘Net, I remember to myself, Damn, Nine Inch Nails is a really good band.

One thing I can say about Nine Inch Nails is that they put on a damn good live show. Really good. Like fireworks in July kinda good. Go to a NIN show and you definitely feel you got your money’s worth at the end, even after paying $9.00 for a fucking Heineken thank you very much much Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. If you’ve ever sat at your desk and watched your music player’s graphic equalizer dance around for a minute simply because it looked cool, go see Nine Inch Nails live.

Reading this Wired.com article, it really made me regret missing their show in LA last month. Definitely check it out to see a live 12 minute video from their “Lights in the Sky” tour, complete with “stealth screens.” Also, check out Eventful.com for their tour dates. They’re playing Vegas in December, if anyone’s down to go.

ZeaLouS1 Tops thesixtyone

posted by The Dark Prince

ZeaLouS1’s “Valley of the Moon,” from his latest album, The Living Epitaph, is currently ranked at number one on thesixtyone’s “New” page! Click here to check it out and bump it!

And, if for some reason you don’t have The Living Epitaph yet, because you’ve obviously been in a coma for the past year, buy it here. You should also probably know that a black man is running for president, and a woman is running for VP. Oh, and then there’s also the apes . . . but that can wait, buy the album, and get back to me about that later.

Random on Sunday; For Real This Time. Seriously.

posted by The Dark Prince

Random on This Sunday's Takeover

Yes, this time, I really mean it, Random, the one and only, will be live on the air with us for this Sunday’s Takeover. He promised me personally that he will be calling in at 7 PM sharp, and if he doesn’t, to go a head and call his personal cell phone. I have the number, people. He’ll be talking about his night opening for Common at the Marquee Theater in Tempe, AZ, as well as his new CD, The 8th Day (review and downloads here), and possibly his article in Blender Magazine, if it’s out by then. It’s going to be a great interview, so be sure to tune in Sunday at 6 PM PST.

Also, this Sunday we’re looking to continue with the new outline format I’ve come up with–ZeaLouS1 works 10 times better with firm structure, so the show should only continue to get better. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to review last week’s show because somebody hasn’t uploaded it yet to the Takeover server . . . TONY B.! So, yeah, when we get that up, I’ll actually be able to take a listen, and so will those of you who missed it live. We’ll also be including show notes with the podcasts, so it’s one more reason to keep coming back to 247Takeover.com.

Speaking of which, I know everyone’s busy these Sundays what with the new fall TV programming coming out (it’s hard enough for me to miss the late-night football games) but you should really hear us live and jump in the chat, as it’s a completely different show when you’re listening live and messaging Z1 personally as opposed to sitting at your work desk and listening to what went down without you. I’ve done both, and live is much, much better.

San Diego Comic-Con is Sold Out

posted by The Dark Prince

Sold out as in no more passes left. First time that’s ever happened. Last year they sold out of 4-day passes before the start of the convention, and then single day passes the day of, but never have they sold out completely and entirely out of ALL passes. I, sadly, did not get passes. Eh, I wasn’t really excited about anything, anyway. There’s a lot of cool stuff going on around town this week, though, including MC Frontalot, YTCracker and MC Lars performing live at the G4 Comic-Con Party. If we’re anywhere this week, it’ll be there. If you’re in the area, you should be, too.
